I should have gotten around to watching this film sooner, given that it came out in 2017 and got Gary Oldman an Oscar for Best Actor. But I saw it this past week on Netflix and decided to check it out.
A compelling portrayal by Oldman — I forgot it was him in about five minutes. Churchill is such a fascinating historical figure, someone who it’s difficult not to lionize or deify. I don’t know how accurate this film is historically, and it seems that it’s maybe overly sympathetic to Churchill as a statesman. I tend to prefer movies that dirty up the protagonist and deal with the complexities of history more realistically. Still, it was a gorgeous-looking period piece with a fantastic actor at the helm. I recommend.
